"Where is design headed?" Reece Davey asks Dezeen Awards 2026 master jury

Dezeen Awards, in partnership with Trimble, teamed up with content creator Reece Davey to ask this year's master jury where the future of architecture and design is headed, in this video. In the reel, the jury members (pictured above) were asked for one thing about the future of architecture or design that excited them, as well as trends spotted from this year's entries. Davey spoke to architects Daniel Libeskind and Aziza Chaouni, as well as architectural designer John Cummins. He also heard from interior designers Jaime Hayon, Julien Sebban and Smita Thomas, alongside designers Jo Barnard and Martin Lotti. Reece Davey questioned the Dezeen Awards master jury on the future of design and architecture The jury also discussed how representing ideas, sketching, modelling and visualising are changing and the way in which designers work today. For Cummins, product marketing manager at 3D modelling software company Trimble SketchUp, the value of software lies in how easily it allows a designer to move between different stages of a project, from an initial idea to a three-dimensional model and eventually a finished building. "Software should not be another problem that the designer has to solve," said Cummins. "SketchUp has always been about giving architects the tools to seamlessly take a project from an idea to a finished building," he later added. The jury met earlier this month at the One Hundred Shoreditch hotel in London to decide the winners of Dezeen Awards 2026, which will be revealed at this year's party on 16 November. This week, Dezeen revealed all shortlisted projects in the running for this year's awards. The architecture shortlist was announced on Monday, followed by the interiors shortlist on Tuesday and the design shortlist yesterday. Next week, the 2026 public vote will open and readers will be asked to vote for their favourite shortlisted projects.
