Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday appealed to Treasury bench MPs to remain silent and allow Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to speak during a noisy Lok Sabha debate on the anti-paper leak Bill. He also urged Speaker Om Birla to expunge any unparliamentary words used by Gandhi. Singh's intervention came as NDA members protested Rahul Gandhi's reference to an 18-year-old student's classification of people as "students, idiots and andhbhakts (blind followers)", triggering noisy scenes in the House. "Speaker Sir, I respectfully request that any unparliamentary words used by the Leader of the Opposition be expunged. I appeal to my Treasury bench colleagues to remain silent and listen to him (Gandhi)," Singh said, briefly easing the uproar in the House.
