Published Nov 1, 2026, 7:04 AM EST Charlie Ridgely is a writer from Maryland, currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. He may be new to Collider, but he's been writing, editing, conducting interviews, and podcasting around the industry for 10 years. From 2016 to the start of 2026, Charlie was a full time writer and critic at ComicBook.com. A lifelong movie fan, avid reader, and renowned (fictional) dungeon explorer/dragonslayer, Charlie is a jack-of-all-trades throughout the fandom multiverse and has covered everything under the sun. There are very few book series around that have reached the heights of A Court of Thorns and Roses. Sarah J. Maas' saga of Feyre Arhceron, her sisters, and the entire land of Prythian absolutely caught fire over the last few years, not only becoming a cultural mainstay in its own right, but also bringing the entire romantasy genre to the forefront of books almost single-handedly. Maybe the most surprising part of this success story is that the books have continued to gain popularity with readers, despite no new titles being released for five whole years. A Court of Silver Flames, the fifth entry in the series, was released back in 2021, and fans have been waiting for more ever since. The wait finally ended this month, with the release of Maas' sixth ACOTAR book, A Court of Splintered Harmony. The book picks up where the others left off, with Prythian on the brink of another potential war, one with far-reaching implications. A Court of Splintered Harmony offers the next chapter that so many have desperately craved, but fans are already champing at the bit for the follow-up. This new book is only part of the story that Maas wanted to tell, and the ending leaves you wanting more. Fortunately, for all the ACOTAR readers out there who have already burned their way through A Court of Splintered Harmony, the sequel isn't far behind. In fact, Maas has already finished the next entry in the series, and it's coming sooner than you think. 'A Court of Forgotten Melody' Is Almost Here Image via Bloomsbury The seventh installment in the ACOTAR series is titled A Court of Forgotten Melody, and it acts as a direct sequel to A Court of Splintered Harmony. Maas actually came up with the story for these two books as one cohesive tale, but knew there was too much to squeeze into a single novel. So they were split into two separate installments, though she wrote them together. Since A Court of Forgotten Melody was already finished before A Court of Splintered Harmony was even released, there is no need for any kind of major wait between the two. Their releases were announced in tandem, with one coming just three months after the other. A Court of Forgotten Melody will be released on January 12, 2027, ensuring the hype around the series won't have time to fade between installments. It's worth noting that Matt Dinniman, author of Dungeon Crawler Carl, is following a similar strategy with the final two books in his massively popular sci-fi series. He's writing the last two books of DCC as a single story and splitting it between two novels. What's Next for ACOTAR? Image via Bloomsbury Publishing When Maas came up for this current arc of the ACOTAR saga, she envisioned it as a four-part story that she refers to as The Valkyrie Cycle. The four parts, referred to as "movements," are being spread out across three books, telling one cohesive story by the time they are all finished. A Court of Splintered Harmony contains Movement I of The Valkyrie Cycle. A Court of Forgotten Melody, which will be a much longer book than its predecessor, contains both Movement II and Movement III. Maas has confirmed that the eighth book in the ACOTAR series will contain Movement IV of The Valkyrie Cycle, bringing that part of the saga to a close. So we know there will at least be one more installment in A Court of Thorns and Roses, and it will complete the story we are currently reading in A Court of Splintered Harmony. We don't, however, have any idea when that book is coming out. Earlier this year, when these two new books were announced, Maas did reveal that she hadn't started writing the eighth novel yet, so there's a chance it'll still be a while before we see how it all wraps up.
