Prima facie, it appears that following heavy upstream rainfall, groundwater is recharging and air trapped in the pore spaces of rocks is being released, causing the disturbance in the well," Vadher explained.According to officials, recent heavy rainfall in upstream areas may have significantly increased groundwater recharge. As water infiltrates underground rock formations, it can compress and force trapped air through fractures and pore spaces. The escaping air may create bubbling and continuous ripples on the water's surface, giving the impression that the well is shaking.Gujarat has witnessed an exceptionally active monsoon season this year, with several districts receiving heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.Successive low-pressure systems over the Arabian Sea and central India have triggered widespread showers, leading to flooding in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch, while also significantly recharging reservoirs, rivers, and groundwater across the state.The explanation is further supported by the absence of any recorded tremors in the region.
