What to expect during the Supermicro Open Storage Summit series: Join theCUBE Aug. 11-Sept. 3 This year is turning out to be a good one for companies in the server and storage architecture business. In late July, Super Micro Computer Inc. told investors during a preliminary earnings forecast that it had secured more than $60 billion in total new orders during its fiscal fourth quarter. The shift toward agentic AI has changed enterprise compute infrastructure needs nearly overnight, with significant demand across banking, financial services and other enterprise computing environments, according to Vik Malyala, chief business officer at Supermicro. “Whatever we think is the pace at which the industry is moving, three months later, it is proving us wrong,” said Malyala during a recent interview with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. “Now we are talking about heavy use of agentic AI across the board, and we have a strong demand that is coming up not just on a GPU, but also on the CPU because of that.” How data enables intelligence and the technology needed to support it will be a central focus of the seventh annual Supermicro Open Storage Summit video series from theCUBE. Running from Aug. 11 to Sept. 3, the series will feature 12 informative sessions. This year’s event focuses on implementing enterprise AI, building infrastructure to support AI inference and agentic AI, and managing data for AI, CSPs and enterprises. All sessions will provide actionable recommendations from industry veterans. These technically focused panels bring together industry experts from across Supermicro’s ecosystem, including leading data management companies and manufacturers of SSDs, HDDs and silicon. Thirty-eight industry leaders from 21 companies are featured, including representatives from AMD, DDN, Hammerspace, Intel, MinIO, Nutanix, Scality, Solidigm, Vast Data, WD and many more. Context memory for storage architecture One of the key developments to be discussed during the Open Storage Summit series will be the increasingly important role of storage architecture in the AI era. The transition from chatbots to AI agents has placed greater emphasis on context memory, the relevant information autonomous systems need to understand and process a task. Dedicated nodes specifically for storing context memory or KV caches have become a new tier of storage in the AI cluster. This has led companies such as Supermicro to develop new systems based on Nvidia Corp.’s architecture, offering greater token throughput and improved efficiency. When Nvidia introduced the BlueField-4 STX reference architecture at GTC in March, it included the CMX context memory storage platform, optimized to store and serve KV caches for large language models. Concurrently, Supermicro joined with other storage partners, such as Vast Data and Nutanix Inc., in announcing AI data platform solutions based on the CMX architecture. “It’s easy to look at BlueField-4 STX as a storage-optimized hardware refresh, but it’s bringing storage into the AI factory as an integrated component,” said Zeus Kerravala, principal analyst at ZK Research. “It recognizes that storage for AI isn’t about long-term archiving — it’s about active reasoning.” CPU and GPU orchestration Server portfolios are also being redesigned to maximize efficiency in the deployment of CPU and GPU infrastructure. An example of this can be seen in Supermicro’s release of its next-generation H15 server portfolio powered by sixth-generation AMD EPYC 9006 Series processors. The systems are optimized for next-generation GPUs, including AMD Instinct accelerators, and connected through AMD Pensando networking. The latest AMD-powered server additions, which were announced in late July, included redesigns for Supermicro’s Hyper, CloudDC and Grand Twin platforms. Offerings such as these reflect how demand is shifting attention to CPU orchestration in support of agentic AI workloads. Sub-agents are now reasoning and executing tasks across compute cycles, creating a greater role for CPUs in the enterprise. “Now you have the CPU, you have the GPU, you’re connecting — bringing AMD into the equation,” Malyala told theCUBE. “Depending on what customers are trying to do, we can size it right.” Data platforms for agents AI agents are also playing a role in how object-storage practitioners are designing new tools for persistent memory. Agents are increasingly being asked to carry out longer, multi-step tasks, which create organizational knowledge that has value, particularly when scaled across lines of business. To enable this, MinIO Inc. has introduced AIStor Memory, an enterprise-controlled platform that preserves agent memory, workspaces and other information generated during an agent’s work. MinIO’s latest release in July followed the September 2025 launch of AIStor-powered pods on Supermicro, which provide preintegrated, preconfigured and ready-to-deploy object storage. The offering was designed for rapid deployment of enterprise AI workloads by providing a turnkey object storage solution that eliminates integration and operational complexity. These solutions will be part of the discussion during the Supermicro Open Storage Summit, running from Aug. 11 to Sept. 3, as industry leaders examine the ways in which major tech players are supporting AI inference and agentic AI while building solid data management platforms.
