World Of Warcraft: Forever - How To Unlearn A Profession Published Nov 6, 2026, 9:54 AM EST Matthew Kevin Mitchell is a writer for TheGamer. In his previous roles, Matthew primarily covered Manga, like One Piece, horror movies, like Scream, and survival horror games, such as Dead by Daylight. His favorite moment came during his first press event covering Scream 6. He hails from Denver, Colorado, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Regis University. When he isn’t scaring himself silly or writing, he loves to play goalie in rec ice hockey, spoil his dog Nux, and drink an unhealthy amount of coffee. World of Warcraft: Forever lets you learn up to two primary professions at a time, but you aren't stuck with your first choice. Maybe you picked Mining and Herbalism to earn gold selling materials at the auction house while leveling, only to decide later you'd rather craft your own gear or potions. Fortunately, you can unlearn a profession to make room for a new one. Before switching, though, it's worth knowing where to find the option and what happens to your progress. We also encountered an issue with the unlearn button, but found a workaround that fixed it for us. How To Unlearn A Profession You don't need to visit a trainer to unlearn a profession. Here's how to unlearn a profession: Press K to open the Professions window. Select the Professions tab, marked with the icon of a hammer and pickaxe. Find the profession you want to unlearn. Click the red X next to its progress bar. Type UNLEARN into the confirmation box to continue. Once you confirm, that profession is removed, and its slot becomes available. You can then visit a profession trainer to learn a new profession. However, unlearning a profession resets your skill progress and removes the recipes you've unlocked. If you take up that profession again later, your previous progress won't return automatically, and you'll have to relearn its recipes. This applies to both purchased and looted recipes. Only primary professions count toward the two-profession limit. Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid are secondary professions, and you can learn all three without using either primary slot. We encountered an issue where the red X appeared as a blank space in the Professions window. The Unlearn tooltip appeared next to the blank space when we hovered over it, but we couldn't click the button. Changing the UI Scale in our game fixed the issue and let us unlearn professions again. Here's how to change the UI scale: Press Escape to open the Game Menu. Click on Options. Select Graphics under the System header. Enable Use UI Scale if it isn't already checked. Adjust the UI Scale slider to a different percentage (85 percent worked for us). Reopen the Professions window with K and check whether the red X is visible. Unlearning a profession in World of Warcraft: Forever only takes a few steps, and adjusting the UI Scale may help if the red X isn't appearing. Just double-check your choice before confirming. You can always learn the profession again, but your previous skill progress and recipes won't automatically return.
