What to do if a new infectious disease emerges: CDAA issues public guidance

Muscat: Oman's Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA), in cooperation with the National Risk Register, has issued public awareness guidance outlining the roles of emergency medical services and the community in responding to the emergence of a new infectious disease.The advisory stresses the importance of coordinated action to limit the spread of disease and ensure an effective emergency response. According to the guidance, ambulance services are responsible for:Assessing suspected cases and handling them safely.Implementing infection prevention and control measures.Transporting patients in accordance with approved medical protocols.Disinfecting ambulances and medical equipment after use.Coordinating closely with healthcare institutions.The public is urged to:Follow official health instructions and guidelines.Avoid close contact with others if symptoms appear.Seek medical care when necessary.Provide accurate information about symptoms and any suspected contact when requesting assistance.Support community efforts and cooperate with the relevant authorities.If symptoms develop, the authority advises people to:Isolate themselves at home and avoid unnecessary movement.Avoid mixing with others.Contact emergency medical services if immediate assistance is required.Follow all instructions issued by the competent health authorities.The CDAA reminded the public that emergency assistance can be requested by calling 9999 in urgent cases.
