In its penultimate episode, Silo season 2 also introduced a story beat that revolves around Lukas Kyle and his chilling interaction with Silo 18's "Algorithm." Since the Algorithm is an original concept introduced in the Apple TV+ sci-fi show, it has raised many questions about Silo 18's future. Silo season 3 makes the Algorithm a very crucial part of its story, revealing its true nature and confirming whether it is AI or something else entirely. Even one of the biggest plot twists of the season is connected to the Algorithm. The Algorithm Seemed To Be The Name Of An AI Governing Silo 18 The AI Seemingly Had The Power To Determine The Silo's Fate After decoding the last few lines of Salvador Quinn's letter in Silo season 2's episode 9, Lukas Kyle realized that they say, "If you don’t believe me go to the very bottom of the silo. Find the tunnel! You will get confirmation there." The letter also mentioned something about the existence of a "safeguard," suggesting that the silos' founders built it. Desperate to find answers, Lukas headed to Silo 18's bottom level after he was not able to arrange a meeting with Bernard. With Shirley's help, he climbed down to the bottom of the silo to look for the tunnel mentioned in the letter. As soon as he approached the tunnel's door, a voice addressed him by his name. The subtitles referred to the voice as "the Algorithm," which warned Lukas that he must not tell anyone about what he is about to discover because, if he does, the "safeguard" will be implemented. The fact that the voice was named "The Algorithm" and seemed to function by identifying patterns and predicting actions in Silo 18 suggested it is an advanced AI system. From using memory-erasing drugs to asking her to kill Juliette, the Algorithm uses statistics and probability to convince Camille to commit many heinous deeds. However, eventually, Bernard helps her realize that, as "robotic" as the Algorithm may sound, it shows many human tendencies. Camille, too, notices its absence at times and realizes how, unlike a machine, it takes time to come up with arguments. This convinces her, Bernard, and Juliette that the Algorithm is driven by someone completely human who can be defeated and overpowered. Silo season 3's finale confirms that the people from Silo 1 "voice" the Algorithm. Silo 1 is accommodated by the various "founders" of the Silo Project who take turns to come out of cryogenic sleep and use the Algorithm to govern all silos. By hiding behind the Algorithm and disguising themselves as AI, they carefully try to control Silo 18 and suppress its rebellions. To their dismay, however, Silo 18 finally manages to stay one step ahead. Before Victor, one of the founders, is about the trigger the "Safeguard Procedure" that can wipe out the entire silo's population, Juliette and her team seal their Silo 18's Safeguard pipe that would have leaked the poison to kill them all. The Algorithm's Potential Purpose In Silo Season 4 Explained Daniel Might Use It To Help Juliette & Her People Credit: Apple TV Silo season 3's flashbacks reveal that Congressman Daniel was lied to about the Silo Project and its purpose. Before an apocalyptic event destroyed the world, he was even forced inside Silo 1 and separated from his partner, Helen. To ensure he complied with other founders, he was then given a new identity, Troy, while his memories were gradually erased using memory-altering drugs. Towards the end of Silo season 3, however, another founder, Victor, helps him recover his memories before dying by suicide. This paves the way for Daniel to become a hero in season 4. Instead of oppressing the people in the silos like other founders, Daniel will likely support Juliette and her people. He will probably use the Algorithm to help them escape before the other founders awaken from their cryogenic sleep. After Silo season 3's story developments, "the Algorithm" will be portrayed less as an evil AI and more as a human figure driven by Daniel in season 4 who only wishes to help the people of Silo 18 before chaos erupts.
