With different types of weapons, skills, and combat abilities, you can tailor Dylan's playstyle in a number of different ways. But with multiple status effects and damage types, it's easy to become overwhelmed when you're just starting. If you're struggling to survive in the early stages or just don't know what direction to take Dylan, here is a build I had a ton of success on for both boss fights and normal fights with the Hiss. Early Build Guide Core Strategy For this build, we will be focusing on using the Combat Ability, Volatile Anomaly. This causes Dylan to create a summon, which continuously fires projectiles at enemies. This deals both regular damage and fills up their Falter meter, plus once the summon can be hurled like a boulder at any enemy you're locked onto. The blast radius is quite large, dealing a significant amount of Falter damage if the summon's health is low. Your goal with this build is to constantly summon your Volatile Anomaly, let it deal Falter damage to the lesser enemies, and use it to continuously chain executions. This not only lets you slay enemies faster, but will constantly keep Dylan's damage increased thanks to the execution buff you get. Plus, for Heavy-tier units, you can hurl the Volatile Anomaly when its low health, which typically results in stunning those enemies, so you can instantly kill them. Skills When it comes to selecting Skills, I recommend starting out by going up the right side of the tree. Guarded Formation, Restorative Summons, and Enduring Ally will all buff your Volatile Anomaly. This not only makes it last much longer, but will also give you some nice protection thanks to the damage reduction and healing. Additionally, you will want to invest in Perfect Dodge, Retribution, and Agile Response. These give you some extra damage whenever you perform a dodge attack, which will synchronize nicely with the weapon we're rocking for this build. Since we can't entirely rely on overwhelming enemies by constantly filling out their Falter meter, these skills give us some additional damage when fighting beefier targets. Sanctioned Retaliation is also worth picking up, as continuously filling up our Power gauge is critical for this build. We want to maximize our uptime on Volatile Anomaly to ensure it's constantly around, damaging and building up the enemy's Falter meters. Plus, it costs Power to hurl the summon at enemies, meaning we will want to constantly be filling this meter during combat. Weapons Primary Form: Cleave Secondary Form: Crush Combo Finisher: Split Pivot For weapons, I really love Cleave as the primary form. This is largely because the Dodge Cleave skill is unbelievably strong and synergizes wonderfully with our main skills, like Retribution. Lifted is one of the strongest status effects you can apply in the game, and it works on nearly every unit that isn't the size of a bus. Since being lifted means they cannot attack (or really do anything), this lets you isolate key targets and freely damage them. If you're fast enough, you can actually perform the lifted attack again and continuously suspend that target until they're dead. It also hits multiple enemies, making it extremely easy to deal with some of the tougher Heavy-tier enemies early on. Cleave also relies on restoring Power and dealing Falter damage, making it work great with our Volatile Anomaly strategy. Having consistent ways to fill this gauge up will make the build feel way more consistent. For the Secondary Form, you can really pick whichever one you want, but I really like Crush. Being able to do Blunt damage can help you punch through armored targets, giving us some flexibility. This is especially good against the Mold enemies, as they are often armored, and Crush allows us to break through them in only a couple of swings. Finally, when it comes to Combo Finishers, you have a lot of options, but I've become a big fan of Split Pivot. Not only does it work well with the lifted status effect, but you also weaken and burn targets once it's upgraded. This makes it quite strong with Volatile Anomaly, as we can use these debuffs to focus on quickly killing the Heavy tier enemies while our summon provides us with execution fodder with the rank-and-file Hiss.
