Westpac investigates after outage leaves businesses unable to make PAYE payments

Inland Revenue says any Westpac customers who were not able to make tax payments this week because of a bank outage may not be charged penalties.Westpac has been suffering an outage in its Westpac One Business platform.Taxpayers Union spokesperson Jordan Williams said he was told some of the bank's business customers had not been able to make their PAYE payments because of errors on the site.Inland Revenue said it was working with Westpac to understand the impact of the outage and identify affected customers."In line with the guidance on our website, where taxpayers were unable to meet their obligations due to circumstances beyond their control, relief of any late payment penalties can be considered."Westpac said it had experienced outages on Monday and Tuesday."Access has been restored and we're investigating the cause. We notified customers through our website and the Westpac One Business login page. We proactively contacted Inland Revenue yesterday and will work with them and a small number of affected customers to help resolve any issues."
