West Jerusalem deputy mayor attacks Ed Miliband with Nazi slur over Mamdani meeting

West Jerusalem’s Israeli deputy mayor, Arieh King, lashed out at UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband after he met New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. King called Miliband, whose parents survived Nazi persecution in Europe, a “kapo”, a prisoner assigned supervisory duties in a Nazi concentration camp. He called Mamdani “the Natzi from NYC” [sic]. “Reminding me some meetings we saw at pictures at @yadvashem Holocaust museum” King added. The attack came after Miliband posted a photograph of himself smiling with Mamdani and wrote: “Progressive parties are so much stronger when we learn from and stand with each other - from the cost of living to climate action to peace in Israel and Palestine.” Canada recently cancelled King’s travel authorisation, preventing him from visiting the country after Palestinian rights groups called for him to be barred over his role in expanding Israeli settlements in occupied East Jerusalem. King, a British-Israeli citizen whose parents came from the UK, is a prominent anti-Palestinian settler. He lives in the Ma’ale HaZeitim settlement enclave inside the Palestinian neighbourhood of Ras al-Amud in occupied East Jerusalem.
