Wedding feast in Mumbai turns nightmare: Bride, groom among 30 ill

Wedding celebrations in Mumbai turned into a medical emergency after the bride, groom and more than 30 guests fell ill after eating food served at the wedding. The families of those affected have sought an investigation by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), led by Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, and demanded strict action against the caterer. The incident took place in Mumbai’s Bhandup area. As the guests' condition deteriorated, families from both the bride's and the groom's sides rushed them to the BMC-run Agarwal Hospital in Mulund.According to the hospital's medical officer, 27 patients have been admitted so far. They include 11 women, nine men and seven children. The medical officer said staff provided all patients with immediate medical attention and medication. “Many of them were admitted with diarrhoea and were vomiting when they were brought to the hospital. Some of them also had severe stomach pain. Their condition is presently stable,” the medical officer told Aaj Tak, India Today's sister channel. The patients are currently under observation.FAMILIES ALLEGE CATERING NEGLIGENCE, SEEK FDA ACTION The incident has left the families shocked, with relatives accusing the catering service of serving poor-quality or stale food at the wedding. They have demanded a thorough investigation by the FDA under Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and sought strict legal action against those responsible.“It started with the women at the celebrations. All of them started vomiting after eating their food. We want the FDA, led by Tukaram Mundhe, and Mumbai Police to investigate the matter and ensure justice for us,” the groom's brother-in-law said.Another relative alleged that the guests began falling ill after the caterer served khowa, or reduced milk solids, towards the end of the celebrations.“The problem did not occur in the beginning. When the celebration was coming to an end, the caterer served khowa to the bride and groom and the other guests. After eating it, they started falling sick. We had to rush them to the hospital.“The caterer charged Rs 1.5 lakh just for the food, and this is what happened. Even during Tukaram Mundhe's tenure, we had to experience this,” the relative said. The families have also called for the cancellation of the caterer's licence if negligence is established.- Ends
