And if you’re not a Mark, you can still donate or bid in the online charity auction. Raising money for a worthy cause The idea started, as these things sometimes do, with a group of friends (called Mark) who had been meeting for a long-running ‘Marks Lunch’, and the golf day grew out of that. One of them, Mark Taylor, was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few years ago. Prostate Cancer UK describes it as the most common cancer in men in the UK, with around one in eight affected in their lifetime and the risk rising sharply after 50. Last year, Mark Taylor helped rally around 30 people to play 100 holes in a single day for Prostate Cancer UK and Breast Cancer Now, raising £360,000. For this year’s 88 Marks charity World Record attempt, the money raised will fund genome sequencing and immunotherapy research project at Oxford University.
