‘We need a retrial’: Doctor who first accused Letby of murder admits he’s ‘not certain’ any crimes committed

In an email, Dr Gibbs wrote that while the babies’ families are extremely distressed that Letby’s guilt is being questioned, “that is not a reason to avoid considering new, compelling evidence that might undermine those convictions”. He continued: “What really matters is why so many babies collapsed on the neonatal unit in Chester in 2015 and 2016. “There seems to be an ever-increasing number of experts willing to advance the case for Letby’s innocence. “I can see some merit in certain arguments but I also disagree with aspects of many of these opinions.” Asked if he remains certain Letby killed the babies, Dr Gibbs said: “No.” Lucy Letby: Scapegoat? is available to stream on 5 now 2 comments2
