Nagendra, Ballari Rural MLA, said the Congress party and its workers had the strength to politically face anyone who walked the Earth, except God, and challenged his political opponents to test their strength in the electoral arena.“Except God, whoever comes on this Earth, we have the strength to face them politically,” he said, adding that politics was like a game of chess.Speaking to reporters at Rupanagudi village in Ballari taluk on Saturday (September 12), Mr. Nagendra launched a sharp attack on Opposition leaders and said the 2028 Assembly elections would provide an appropriate answer to those claiming that he was a “finished chapter” in politics.“We are not people who confine ourselves to speeches and statements on platforms. We will show our strength on the battlefield of elections,” he challenged.Mr. Nagendra criticised the Opposition leaders for the language they had allegedly used against J.N. Ganesh, Kampli MLA, and Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi. He said such remarks reflected their culture and mindset, and accused them of looking down upon Dalits, backward classes, minorities and, particularly, the tribal community.“Some people have still not come out of a Manusmriti mindset. They are under the illusion that everything should happen according to their wishes. However, the people of Ballari are closely watching their statements, conduct and political positions,” he said, asserting that freedom of speech does not mean freedom to say anything.He criticised BJP leaders C.T. Ravi and Rajugowda, alleging that they were making statements without understanding the traditions, values, nature of the people and political situation in Ballari.Congress rallyIn response to a query, Mr. Nagendra said that the Congress would soon organise a massive public meeting in Ballari to highlight the development works and achievements of the State government.“Discussions are already under way among Congress leaders and the party high command regarding the proposed public meeting. Thousands of crores of rupees have been spent on the development of Ballari. The public meeting will inform the people about government achievements,” he said, clarifying that the proposed public meeting should not be viewed as a counter to the BJP’s recent padayatra to Ballari.
