Boats? No idea AFTER weeks of silence on illegal migration, Andy Burnham has finally revealed his plan to tackle the boats. Unfortunately it’s the SAME plan Keir Starmer had. Yet the Prime Minister ludicrously insists the policies he inherited from his predecessor are working. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! It’s true that small boat crossings have declined in recent weeks. Limited beach crackdowns by French police are finally starting to earn a tiny fraction of the £1billion handed to them by the UK. But anyone can see it’s largely stormy weather conditions in the Channel that have halted the crossings. Burnham is offering nothing to stop Britain remaining a benefits-and-free-housing El Dorado that’s a huge draw for anybody who can afford a people smuggler. Leaving us with only two real deterrents: the wind and the rain. Broken system IS Andy Burnham tough enough to fix an entirely broken, often shockingly cruel system of adult social care? Most read in The Sun Every Prime Minister in recent years has promised to reform it — and failed to get close to delivering because there are no easy, voter-friendly answers. Burnham’s central idea of creating a free, NHS-style elderly care system is a bad idea. It would only create yet another state-run bottomless pit into which tens of billions of taxpayers’ money would be endlessly poured. The alternative, a punishing death tax, also sounds unpalatable. Of course, there might be more cash in Treasury coffers to fund care if the welfare bill wasn’t already so cripplingly huge. Labour MPs living in an economic fantasy land want to spend MORE on benefits. What are the chances of them agreeing to the painful choices needed to look after our old people properly? Toxic Left THE Left loves nothing more than to lecture Brits to “Be Kind”. Why is it, then, that so much vitriol and poison is spouted by their leaders? Zack Polanksi is a classic example. The Greens leader has denounced right-wing politicians as “toxic” and says they should be excluded from society. Yet, just weeks after the murder of Ann Widdecombe, he saw nothing wrong in sharing on social media a T-shirt cartoon suggesting Nigel Farage should be executed with a guillotine. With typical cynicism and insulting the public’s intelligence, Polanksi later claimed he had done so “unconsciously”. Nothing the shameless opportunist Polanski does is accidental. It’s all taken from the hypocritical hard Left playbook. Comment now
