Water supply to north Chennai areas affected; work in progress to repair burst in major pipeline

Piped water supply to various north Chennai areas would be temporarily stopped as work is in progress to repair damages in a major pipeline on GNT Road.Following a burst in a major pipeline carrying drinking water from Puzhal water treatment plant during early hours on Monday, Chennai Metrowater has commenced repair work on the damaged section on GNT Road.A press release said various places in north Chennai, including Vadaperumbakkam, Kosapur, and Chettimedu in zone 2, wards 25, 26, 28 to 31 in zone 3, all areas covered by Patel Nagar distribution station in zone 4 and wards 71 and 72 in zone 6, will not receive piped water supply till 10 p.m. on September 9.Work has commenced to dig the stretch of the GNT Road to replace the damaged portion of the pipeline, which is 1,200 mm in diameter, with a new one.
