THE hosts of The One Show were left stunned as its 20th Anniversary special was interrupted by the Government Wild Fire Alert. The iconic BBC show is celebrating 20 years on air this week, with tonight’s hour long episode seeing a number of former hosts return to reflect on its legacy. The One Show suffered a chaotic start after the Government’s Wildfire alert The pair initially thought it was a fire alarm But within seconds of the show starting at 7pm, Alex Jones and Roman Kemp were caught off guard when an alarm sounded live on air. As Roman continued to try and read the autocue over the noise, Alex shook her head and raised her hands and said: “You couldn’t make that up could you. Roman then faced someone off camera and asked: “Is there some sort of fire alarm?” “We continue,” they both said, before running through the rest of the segment introductions before the alarm cut out. The alert flashed up on millions of people’s phones across the country, and warned against lighting anything that could spark a wildfire, including barbecues, campfires, and fireworks. The message read in full: “There is a very high risk of wildfires nationally. “Residents, landowners and visitors should not undertake any activity that could start a fire, including disposable barbecues, fire pits, garden incinerators or fireworks. Most read in TV “Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire placing lives, homes, businesses and emergency responders at risk.” A few moments later after a VT, Roman clarified to viewers what the sound had been. He said: “As you will probably be aware that was actually a wildfire alert on everyone’s phones. “You would have heard it on the opening of our show, but as always we hope everyone is staying safe, of course.” 1 comment1
