The left-arm quick struck with the first ball in Mackay and then ripped through the top order to take five wickets in 22 deliveries.Pat Cummins chose to bowl after Australia were heavily criticised for batting first in the opening Test in Darwin. He had previously done it against Sri Lanka in 2016, England in 2021 and India in 2024. He already holds the record after taking five wickets in only 15 deliveries against the West Indies in 2025.Stuart Broad and Scott Boland have both taken five wickets in 19 balls, while Shane Watson needed 21 deliveries against South Africa.The opening wicket was also Starc's 28th in the first over of a Test innings, underlining just how often he has made an early impact with the new ball.His fifth wicket brought another landmark. Starc moved to 440 Test wickets, overtaking South Africa great Dale Steyn's 439 and moving into 10th place on the all-time list.BANGLADESH HOLD ON AFTER STARC'S BURSTStarc's five-wicket burst had Bangladesh staring at a huge collapse, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud managed to stop the bleeding.The pair added 23 runs for the seventh wicket to take Bangladesh to 35 for six at lunch after 23 overs. Mehidy was unbeaten on 11 and Hasan Mahmud was eight not out at the interval.The innings had begun with Australia desperate for a response after Bangladesh's nine-wicket victory in Darwin. Tanzid had scored a century in that match and Shanto made 84, helping Bangladesh secure their first Test win on Australian soil.Cummins was criticised for choosing to bat first in the opener, with Ricky Ponting among those who felt Australia should have used their pace attack immediately.This time, Cummins did just that, and Starc made the most of it.Australia made one change to their XI, bringing Matt Renshaw back in for Jake Weatherald. Nathan Lyon retained his place despite calls for Scott Boland to return.Bangladesh also made one change, with Shoriful Islam replacing Ebadot Hossain.
