An emotional Mirabai Chanu struggled to hold back her tears as she was on the podium listening to India's national anthem after winning gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Sunday, July 26. They were tears of joy because I had won the first gold medal for India in these Commonwealth Games. Mirabai Chanu produced a dominant performance in the women's 48kg event, smashing the Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games records on her way to a winning total of 190kg, comprising 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk.
