Was he hanging in my bedroom like a bat?: Kangana on Ramdev over 'jawani' remarks

BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has hit back at yoga guru Swami Ramdev over his remarks about her past and youth, asking whether he was “hanging in my bedroom like a bat” to know about her personal life. In a recent interview, Kangana also questioned Ramdev’s shift from yoga and Ayurveda to business, saying he should not give her “character lessons”.Speaking to journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, Kangana was asked how Ramdev, who also identifies with Sanatan ideology, had ended up opposing her. She said she believed his business interests had taken him away from the principles of Sanatan philosophy.“When his Swadeshi movement started, the government also encouraged him a lot. But I feel he has gone too far into capitalism,” Kangana said. She added that Sanatan ideology and capitalism can eventually come into conflict over how much one extracts from people. “Sanatan ideology, at a certain point, begins to clash with capitalism,” she said.‘Swami Ramdev has become a businessman’Kangana further criticised Ramdev for expanding his business empire beyond Ayurveda, herbs and yoga. “From the encouragement he received for Ayurveda, herbs and yoga, he has now moved to businesses selling vests and underwear,” she said.Calling Ramdev a “complete businessman”, Kangana added, “There is nothing wrong with becoming a businessman, but don’t wear the garb [of something you’re not].”Her remarks come amid a public feud between the two that began after Ramdev criticised Kangana's controversial comments about Gen Z.Kangana hits back at Baba RamdevDuring the interview, Kangana was asked about Ramdev's comments on her past. Ramdev had questioned Kangana's childhood, youth and past while responding to her “Generation Gutter” remarks about young protesters. He had called her comments a sign of a “corrupted mind” and said her political party should take note.Kangana responded sharply when asked about the comments.“Was Baba Ramdev hanging in my bedroom like a bat? Did he see me in my youth? What did he see?” she said. She added, “I don’t understand what exactly he saw. He should say what he saw.”Kangana had made a similar point earlier on Instagram, telling Ramdev not to “daydream” about her youth or bedroom and accusing him of relying on rumours and gossip when speaking about her personal life. She also referred to the Supreme Court's action against Ramdev and Patanjali over misleading advertisements. How the Kangana-Ramdev feud startedThe latest exchange is linked to Kangana's controversial comments about Gen Z. The actor-politician had reacted to videos from protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar and described some of the young protesters as “Generation Gutter”.Kangana criticised the language and behaviour she claimed to have seen in videos from the protests and accused some young people of misusing their freedom. Her remarks triggered criticism, with many objecting to her use of the term “Generation Gutter”.She later clarified that she was not making a blanket statement about all young people or everyone who attended the protest. Instead, she said she was referring specifically to certain people and women.Ramdev subsequently commented on the controversy, questioning Kangana's own background while objecting to her description of the younger generation. His remarks prompted Kangana's social media response, escalating their public spat. Why Kangana mentioned the Supreme CourtKangana's reference to the Supreme Court was linked to proceedings involving Ramdev and Patanjali over misleading advertisements. In 2024, the Supreme Court dealt with allegations that Patanjali and its senior figures had made misleading claims about the medicinal efficacy of products and had also made statements disparaging modern medicine. The court recorded assurances that there would be no further violations relating to advertising and branding of Patanjali products.Kangana had referred to this episode in her Instagram response to Ramdev, arguing that he should not question her character based on speculation about her past. Her latest comments show that the dispute has now moved beyond the original Gen Z controversy, with both sides taking increasingly personal jabs at each other.- EndsPublished By: shweta keshriPublished On: Aug 27, 2026 10:15 IST
