Was Gary Neville right? We re-watched Man Utd’s ‘pathetic’ 15 minutes against Fulham to see how bad it really was

MANCHESTER UNITED were slammed by Gary Neville for producing “the worst 15 minutes I have ever seen them play” in the second half of their 1-1 draw with Fulham. United fans might argue with that claim after watching some awful displays over the years – including a cup exit to Grimsby, a 4-0 hammering by Brentford and a 7-0 demolition by Liverpool. While United did salvage a point thanks to Matheus Cunha‘s late strike, Neville was scathing of their opening quarter of an hour, calling them “absolutely pathetic”. The former Red Devils right-back said: “I’ve watched Manchester United since the age of five and that’s the worst 15 minutes I have ever seen them play. “Absolutely pathetic. They have walked for 15 minutes and you get what you deserve in a football match. “Maybe there will be a reaction but I’ve never seen a lack of effort for 15 to 20 minutes like I have just seen there. Rashford wins a free kick after being fouled by Timothy Castagne, who is booked. 49′: Diogo Dalot is dispossessed in a promising position for United. 51′: Kobbie Mainoo over-hits a pass into the box and another United attack comes to nothing. 52′: United try to play out from the back but Martinez’s pass upfield is intercepted by Fulham, who launch an immediate counter. 53′: Nice give and go between Youri Tielemans and Rashford sets the England winger away… but his cross-field pass to Bryan Mbeumo is poor and the ex-Brentford man fouls his man trying to get the ball back. 55′: Mbeumo races through on the breakaway after a long spell of possession for Fulham, but gets clattered after a heavy touch – allowing the hosts to recycle the ball again. 57′: United keeper Senne Lammens boots the ball down the pitch under pressure, but he can’t find a team-mate and Fulham take control again. 59′: Mbeumo fails to control Mainoo’s pass under pressure from Alex Iwobi and gives away a Fulham throw.
