Warwick Davis says reprising role in new Harry Potter TV series a ‘huge honour’

Actor Warwick Davis has said he based his Harry Potter character Professor Filius Flitwick on some of his own teachers, as he described the “huge honour” of getting to play the wizard again.Davis, 56, is so far the only cast member from the original films to reprise their role for the new “top secret” TV series.He starred as Hogwarts’ charms professor for a decade in the blockbusters, teaching students to make objects levitate in one of his most memorable scenes in Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone.Davis told the Press Association: “That character has been one of my favourite characters to play in my career.“He’s a very warm, kind of likeable character, as far as I’m concerned.“I actually based him a lot on some of my teachers. He’s the kind of teacher you could say you’d forgotten your homework and they wouldn’t mind, they’d say, ‘OK, don’t do it again, but don’t worry about it for now’.“To be asked to come back and play him again for the series was a huge honour, and I’m excited to retell these stories because they’re fantastic stories.“But I can’t tell you anything about the series yet because it’s all very top secret.”He described the world of Harry Potter as something of a “constant” in his professional life.“This place is super familiar to me because I worked on the films for over 11 years, and I’ve worked constantly since then with the team at the studio tour in Watford as well,” he told PA.“So Harry Potter has become part of my professional life since the… late 90s throughout until now. So it’s a constant. It’s fabulous.“For me as an actor, being involved with the Star Wars franchise for so many years and now the Harry Potter world franchise, it’s a terrific honour.”Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone will premiere this Christmas on HBO Max.The official teaser trailer for the series was released earlier this month showing Harry trying out the sorting hat and playing Quidditch for the first time at Hogwarts.
