All the action as the Warriors host the Manly Sea Eagles in the final round of the NRL regular season, from Go Media Stadium.‘Absolute idiots’: Warriors coach Andrew Webster slams Adam Pompey criticsWarriors coach Andrew Webster has launched an impassioned defence of Adam Pompey as the club eyes its first NRL minor premiership since 2002.The under-fire winger came on for debutant Luke Laulilii in the 46-32 victory over the Newcastle Knights at Go Media Stadium on Sunday.Despite being cut to 12 men after prop Jacob Saifiti was sent off for a sickening high shot on Laulilii, the Knights routinely found space on the edges.Newcastle winger Greg Marzhew wreaked havoc on the right edge, scoring two tries after Pompey was forced to jam in to cover centre Bradman Best.The 28-year-old, who became a father earlier this year, was the target of social media critics after the Warriors’ 45-26 win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs the week before.Webster admitted he was oblivious to the online vitriol towards Pompey.“Probably a weakness of mine sometimes, not being on social media, that I’m not aware of these things, but he didn’t show any signs this week,” he said.“He looked like he was always ready. Photos / Photosport“We left him stranded like several times last week against Cody Walker throwing stuff at him and [Matthew] Dufty. Like that’s their superpower. So if there is criticism, they’re idiots. Like absolute idiots.”Late in the first half, Pompey skilfully caught a Jett Cleary bomb and gave the offload to Demitric Vaimauga, who scored the Warriors’ go-ahead try after trailing 16-0 early. In the second half, Pompey scored in the right corner despite two defenders pushing him over the sideline.The Warriors defence will come into sharp focus this week, however, with Webster frustrated with their leaky efforts.“I just felt there was probably not enough guys out there at their best. So I can’t say it ranks as their highest win. I think everyone’s going to say, you had two halves, so it must rank high. We’ve got faith in Jett and Luke Hanson and Luke Laulilii. “I think it was one of those ones where if you had told me this morning we were going to win, I would have said ‘yes’, and I would have said ‘however we win, I’ll take the two points and get out of there’.“But then in hindsight, the coach in me starts saying we’ve got to make sure we keep the finger on the pulse of a few things and can’t let them slip. We conceded too many points.”The 14-point win over the Knights was enough to reclaim top spot on the ladder over the Panthers with one week remaining.The minor premiership race will go down to the wire, with the Warriors to host the Sea Eagles on Saturday afternoon and the Panthers to host the Tigers on Sunday evening.
