Walkathon held in Chennai to raise awareness on vascular diseases

The walkathon was organised by the Chennai Vascular Society. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement The Chennai Vascular Society organised a walkathon at Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar, on Sunday to mark National Vascular Day and raise awareness about vascular diseases and limb health.More than 1,000 people, including vascular surgeons, doctors, medical, and nursing students, volunteers and members of the public, participated in the event. The campaign was held under the theme ‘Save Limbs – To Save Life’, with a focus on preventing avoidable amputations through early diagnosis and timely treatment.Addressing the gathering, vascular health experts highlighted the risks associated with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and diabetic foot complications, particularly among people with diabetes. The event was attended by Justice C. Saravanan, A. Aravind, Dean, Stanley Medical College, and senior medical professionals, among others.K. Elancheralathan, president of the Chennai Vascular Society and Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Government Stanley Hospital, said there needs to be more awareness about vascular diseases and the role of vascular surgeons.
