(ABC News: Lauren Smith)A Western Australian police officer has pleaded guilty in a Perth court to assaulting his five-week-old baby.Nickolas Wayne Peake, 30, appeared at the Midland Magistrates court today charged with aggravated common assault.In a statement, WA police said detectives from the Child Abuse Squad laid the charges on Sunday after the assault, and the baby was taken to Perth Children's Hospital as a precaution.Police said Peake, a serving officer, had been stood down.Peake is due to face court again next month. (ABC News: Lauren Smith)He was released on bail after pleading guilty to the charge.Peake declined to answer any questions from the media outside court.He is due back in court next month.
