Voters in northern Summit County face a dozen issues on ballot, including property, income taxes

Summit CountyFrom school districts to townships, local governments are turning to voters this fall for funding requests that could shape budgets and services in the years ahead.David Petkiewicz, cleveland.comBy Destiniee Jaram, cleveland.comTWINSBURG, Ohio -- Voters in northern Summit County will decide a dozen local issues Nov. 3, including property tax levies for schools, roads and fire services, an income-tax increase, natural gas aggregation short-term rentals, and a zoning change.Bath Township: Renew and increase its road levy to 3.4 mills. The five-year levy would generate about $2.3 million annually and cost an estimated $94 per $100,000 of property value.Boston Heights:A five-year, 2.75-mill levy for roads would generate about $235,000 annually and cost about $61 per $100,000. A three-year, 0.75-mill fire levy would generate about $65,000 annually and cost about $17 per $100,000.An increase in income tax from 2% to 2.25% for police, fire and emergency medical services, a new safety center and improvements to the existing fire station.Copley Township: A new three-year, 1.7-mill fire levy to generate about $1.38 million annually and cost about $60 per $100,000.Hudson: Authorize the city to establish an opt-out natural gas aggregation program.Northfield Center Township: A new 2-mill levy that would raise about $485,000 a year for road work. The five-year levy would cost about $70 per $100,000.Peninsula: Whether to prohibit most short-term home rentals of fewer than 30 consecutive days when the property owner does not live there.Stow: Whether to increase the salaries of the mayor, law director and finance director to $100,000 annually beginning in 2028. Stow-Munroe Falls City School District: Renew a five-year operating levy that generates about $4.63 million a year. The levy has an effective rate of 3.17 mills, or about $97 a year for every $100,000 of a home’s market value.Twinsburg: Whether to rezone 3.2 acres at 2570 Post Road from public facilities to single-family residential use.Twinsburg Township: A proposed 1.69-mill continuing levy would generate about $412,000 a year for roads and cost about $59 per $100,000. Early in-person voting started Oct. 6 at the Summit County Board of Elections, 1050 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3.
