Vote: Best NE Ohio football performer in Week 2

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Game balls go out to the following players for their performances from Week 2 of the high school football season.Brunswick’s Connor Jamison won the reader poll last week for engineering the Blue Devils’ 47-42 comeback at Berea-Midpark. He threw the winning TD pass with 33 seconds left, capping a 414-yard performance with five touchdowns (six scores counting one rushing).Jamison received 29.3% of the votes, ahead of Mentor receiver Logan Berwald with 21% of the votes.Coaches are encouraged to send statistics and nominations to Matt Goul (mgoul@cleveland.com) by Sunday evening. Abdelhady totaled 285 yards from scrimmage.Zac Anderson, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy: Anderson and Tommy Kopec combined for six touchdowns in their 49-7 win vs. Canton South. CVCA attempted just one pass, and Anderson rushed for three TDs and 153 yards on nine carries.Carter Atwater, Rocky River: The junior quarterback threw for 214 yards and four TDs on 7-of-9 passing in the Pirates’ 63-0 win Saturday at John Marshall. Their offensive starters ran only 16 plays, and Atwater found a different receiver on each of his passes.Michael Barnes, Lake Catholic: A senior defensive end, Barnes was part of the Cougars’ clinching sack in a 14-13 win Friday at Avon Lake. Barnes finished with two tackles for loss, one solo hit and seven assists.Bo Brandehoff, Riverside: The senior quarterback scored five touchdowns, including four on passes and one on the ground, in Riverside’s 40-13 rout of Aurora. Brandehoff completed 12 of 19 passes for 260 yards. He rushed for another 63 yards on 15 attempts. He found Jayvion Kyser five times for 108 yards and two TDs and Jaxon Moore five times for 114 yards and two TDs.Tommy Caimi, Kirtland: Caimi rushed for 238 yards and two TDs on 22 carries, as Kirtland held off Poland Seminary for a 36-34 win on the road. The performance sets up the defending OHSAA Division VI state champions for a showdown Friday at Division V state-title contender Perry.Tyler Chapman, Lorain: In the Titans’ 42-22 rivalry win Saturday at Elyria, Chapman scored three times as a receiver and running back. He totaled 252 yards.Brody Colello, Mayfield: Colello scored the Wildcats’ first two touchdowns to lead their 31-13 win Friday at Elyria Catholic. He rushed 16 times for 182 yards.Jack Coleman, Amherst: The Comets’ dynamic junior scored three TDs to lead their 38-21 win against Buckeye. He rushed for two TDs, added another on a 27-yard pass from sophomore Anthony Passarrello and kicked a 25-yard field goal. Coleman also had two punts, totaling 92 yards, including a 55-yarder inside the 10. Defensively, Coleman added three tackles. He hasn’t allowed a reception in two weeks at cornerback.Anthony DePompei, Highland: With senior quarterback Johnny Prucha out because of a shoulder injury in the second half, DePompei stepped in to help the Hornets’ comeback in a 31-27 win at Strongsville. The Mustangs led 14-3 early before Highland rallied with DePompei, who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.Donovan Driscal, Cleveland Central Catholic: A senior receiver, Driscal scored twice for the Ironmen in a 49-18 win vs. John Hay. Driscal finished with 96 yards on four passes from sophomore quarterback Jayon Payne.Will Eshghy, Benedictine: A senior middle linebacker, Eshghy led the Bengals’ defensive performance in a 7-3 win vs. Padua with multiple sacks and tackles for loss. Benedictine stopped Padua inside the 10-yard line during the final three minutes to preserve its win. The Bengals also held the Bruins to 158 yards in total offense. Eshghy finished with 12 total tackles, six solo, one TFL, a sack and a quarterback pressure.Reno Ferri, Hudson: The senior rushed for four scores in the first half of a 55-35 win at Jackson and finished with 149 yards. He finished with six scores total.LaMarques Greenwood II, Glenville: A senior quarterback, Greenwood rushed for four TDs to pace the Tarblooders on the road in a 34-13 victory at Olentangy Liberty. Greenwood returned to the field after missing the fourth quarter of last week’s loss at Massillon because of cramping.331/33High school football: Perry at Kenston, August 28, 2026Nick Gustin, Perry: Linemen don’t always get the deserved credit, but Gustin not only helped block for Perry’s early start in a 45-12 win at Kenston, he also got in on the act with a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown to spur the Pirates’ performance.Elijah Harris, Garfield Heights: The junior lowered the boom on Youngstown Cardinal Mooney with four touchdowns, including a 65-yard kickoff return for a score in the Bulldogs’ 39-37 win. Harris rushed for 215 yards and three TDs on 24 carries.Tristin Hughes, Rocky River: Hughes ran back a 50-yard punt return for a score and rushed for another TD in the Pirates’ win at John Marshall. He added two receptions for 38 yards.401/40High School Football: Akron East at Nordonia HS, August 28, 2026Dominick Jackson, Nordonia: Also a standout receiver, the senior made his impact in the secondary with two interceptions in the Knights’ 46-12 win against Akron East. Nordonia forced six turnovers in the game.Luke Jensen, Willoughby South: Jensen threw for 302 yards and two TDs to pace Willoughby South’s 34-13 win at Kent Roosevelt. He found Josh Jensen for one of those scores and 189 yards on three of his completions.Tommy Kopec, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy: Kopec, a junior, rushed for 191 yards and three TDs on 13 carries in the Royals’ rout of Canton South.Jake Lamirand, St. Ignatius: The 6-foot-6 junior scored two TDs, including the winner on a slant from junior Jacob Mikin with 2:10 left in the fourth to give the Wildcats a 24-21 comeback win at Pickerington North. It marked coach Tom Kaufman’s first victory as coach at the school.Gideon Larlham, Stow-Munroe Falls: A junior, Larlham completed 9 of 13 passes for 166 yards and two TDs in Stow’s 44-13 win against Barberton. Larlham also rushed for a score.Landon Lehmer, St. Edward: A Miami (Ohio) commit, Lehmer’s interception late in the second quarter kickstarted the Eagles’ first scoring drive to tie the score and eventually beat Canton McKinley, 22-8, at Baldwin Wallace’s George Finnie Stadium.Lawrence Moore, Brush: His 15-yard TD run with less than three minutes left propelled the Arcs to a 21-14 win against North Ridgeville.Brady Moran, Lake Catholic: A senior linebacker, Moran had two TFLs and helped clinch the Cougars’ win at Avon Lake on a sack with Michael Barnes. Moran finished with one solo tackle and 11 assists.B.P. Paulozzi, St. Edward: The Syracuse commit came off the edge for two of the Eagles’ three sacks in the second half of their win vs. Canton McKinley.Cameron Pesch, Olmsted Falls: Pesch threw for 130 yards and three TDs in the Bulldogs’ 42-7 win against Brunswick. The senior quarterback rushed for another 72 yards and a score.Nick Reece, Berea-Midpark: Reece scored three TDs on passes from Dylan Papushak, including the go-ahead score in a 40-33 win at Euclid. Reece also set up another score with a big punt return. He totaled 335 all-purpose yards, including 152 yards on seven receptions.Ronnie Taylor Jr., Villa Angela-St. Joseph: On just four carries, Taylor rushed for 137 yards and a score in the Vikings’ 47-6 victory vs. Cincinnati Taft.D’Angelo White, Villa Angela-St. Joseph: White got the Vikings started in their rout of Taft with a 61-yard TD reception from sophomore Julian Harris. The Louisville commit scored two TDs with 77 yards on two receptions.Dane Wininger, Copley: The junior threw four TD passes and completed 13 of 14 attempts for 251 yards in the Indians’ 56-6 win vs. Firestone.Vote for the top performer of Week 2 in the above poll.
