Despite VisionQuest‘s subject matter as the first solo outing of the title artificial intelligence, the Marvel series kept things strictly human-made. Series creator Terry Matalas recently confirmed there was no GenAI used in the making of the Disney+ series, which debuts Oct. 14 on the streamer, noting there wasn’t “a need” for the tech. “No, not at all. There hasn’t really been a need,” Matalas told ScreenRant. “All the designs nod to how our current form of AI processes things… That felt like a fun way for us to comment on it.” Production designer Will Hughes-Jones explained that his team employed human creativity to emulate the flawed look of AI software renderings. Watch on Deadline Set after the events of WandaVision (2021), VisionQuest follows the resurrected android Vision (Paul Bettany) as he goes on a journey of self-discovery with help from AI personas embedded into his programming, all while a bounty is placed on his head. In May, Disney pulled the plug on its $1B investment in OpenAI’s Sora, putting an end to the use of Disney’s extensive character catalogue in the text-to-video app.
