Viral Taiwan train video falsely linked to India's bullet train

India’s first bullet train is scheduled to begin operations between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on August 15, 2027. Less than a year away, a video now going viral purports to show the first bullet train coaches having arrived in India from Japan. The video showed a bullet train coach being carried on a heavy-duty, multi-axle trailer along a road, and was shared with captions like: “Guess what, Bullet Train engines arrive at Mumbai from Japan.”India Today Fact Check found that the video is not from India. Also, the manufacturing of India’s bullet train is underway in Bengaluru.OUR PROBEA reverse search of the video’s frames led us to a report by Yahoo News Taiwan dated August 16, featuring a screenshot from the viral clip. According to the report, the visuals were filmed by Taiwanese outlet CTi News on the evening of August 15, when the new “N700ST” train of the Taiwan High Speed Rail arrived at Kaohsiung Port. The arrival was also reported by Focus Taiwan. A keyword search led us to an extended version of the video published by CTi News, in which the train coach, loaded onto a heavy-duty multi-axle trailer, can be seen being escorted along a road. The report added that the new trains would be sent to the Yanchao main plant for assembly, testing and safety inspections, and that the 12 new trainsets were planned to be put into operation by September 2028.The Taiwan High Speed Rail began commercial operations in 2007 and is a key part of Taiwan’s transport network. The N700ST is the first new train model to be added to its fleet in more than two decades.INDIA’S BULLET TRAINS India’s indigenous bullet train is being built at BEML’s Aditya plant in Bengaluru, which Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated in April 2026.
