Vijayendra apologises after poster appears at Yediyurappa home

Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra apologised to Congress leaders for words spoken in anger. The climbdown followed a protest poster and debate over jobs, recruitment and reservation.Bengaluru,Nov 3, 2026 12:32 ISTKarnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra on Tuesday apologised for remarks he made against Congress leaders, saying he had used certain words in anger and did not intend to hurt anyone, news agency Press Trust of India reported. His apology came after a poster criticising him was pasted on the compound wall of his father and former chief minister B S Yediyurappa's residence in Bengaluru, apparently in response to Vijayendra's recent remarks. The poster was later removed by the staff.“I admit that I used certain words in Davanagere, but I did not use them deliberately. If the Congress leaders have been hurt by my choice of words, I apologise,” Vijayendra told reporters in Kolar, according to PTI.Explaining what led to his remarks, Vijayendra said he was angered by unemployment among young people and the Congress government's handling of the reservation issue. “Generally, I do not use such language, either on public platforms or under any circumstances. The reason I became angry was that unemployed youths across the state are today taking to the streets to protest against the Congress government,” he said.Referring to alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission and the reservation issue, Vijayendra accused the Congress government of failing to introduce reforms and properly defend the reservation matter before the Karnataka High Court. “Similarly, when the government failed to properly argue the reservation issue before the Karnataka High Court, I naturally became agitated and used certain words,” he said.“If my choice of words has hurt anyone, I certainly apologise. I did not use those words deliberately. I have already clarified that I do not speak that way and never do so,” he added.Vijayendra had made the controversial remarks at a press conference in Davanagere while questioning the Congress government's handling of the reservation issue and accusing it of doing injustice to oppressed and marginalised communities.“If these Congress people had any sense of honour or self-respect, they should have properly argued the case concerning reservation before the Karnataka High Court. Instead, the Congress government has indulged in mere drama and deceit, and without presenting its case properly before the court, has now done injustice to those oppressed and marginalised communities,” he had said.Vijayendra has now withdrawn from his choice of words and apologised to anyone hurt by them, while maintaining that his comments were prompted by concerns over unemployment, alleged recruitment irregularities and the reservation issue.- Ends
