Video: Leaking water pipeline causes Indore road to collapse, leaves crater

A portion of a road in Indore collapsed, creating a large pothole and affecting traffic in the area. A Nagar Nigam inspection found that a leaking six-inch Narmada water pipeline running near the spot had weakened the soil and caused the road to cave in.PIPELINE LEAK FOUND AFTER ROAD COLLAPSEThe road in Lane 3 of Indore's Pardeshipura area suddenly caved in, leaving a large hole on the road. After residents raised a complaint, a team from the Indore Municipal Corporation reached the spot and inspected the damaged section. The civic team first opened up the drainage line to check whether it was responsible for the collapse. However, the drainage line was found to be completely intact. The team then examined the six-inch Narmada pipeline passing near the spot and detected a leak. Water seeping from the pipeline had weakened the soil underneath the road, eventually causing the surface to collapse. REPAIR WORK UNDERWAYAssistant Engineer Lakshminarayan Bajpai from the Municipal Corporation's drainage department was present at the spot. He called workers from the water department and got the repair work on the leaking Narmada pipeline started.According to the municipal corporation, the pipeline is expected to be completely repaired by Wednesday evening. Once the leakage is fixed, the large pothole created by the road collapse will also be filled immediately. In August, a road built under the Indore Smart City project at a cost of Rs 40 crore caved in during a pressure test of a newly laid 24-hour water supply pipeline. The incident, captured on CCTV, prompted concerns over the road's construction quality and structural strength.
