Police sources said both passengers were safe after the incident.The road surface reportedly gave way suddenly, leaving the driver with little time to react. The car lost balance and plunged into the crater before overturning. The incident occurred on a stretch where metro rail construction work is currently underway. The sudden collapse triggered concern among motorists and led to significant traffic congestion in the area.There was a similar road collapse near Thiruvanmiyur Junction on OMR in May 2025, when an ageing sewage pipeline failed and a car fell into a six-foot-deep crater, injuring five people.
