Victoria Beckham receives sweet gift from David after ‘offensive’ Katherine Ryan joke

The Canadian comic sparked complaints during an episode of Have I Got News For You in 2025 when she jokingly called the Spice Girl a ‘c***’. Two viewers called the remark ‘gratuitously offensive’ and the BBC subsequently launched an internal investigation. This week it was revealed the BBC upheld the complaints about Ryan. But ever the charming husband, David surprised Victoria with an enormous bouquet of flowers which the singer showed off on her Instagram Stories, splashing ‘I love you’ in her post. During the episode, which was hosted by the Last One Laughing season 3 star, Ryan and the panelists were reflecting on the moment David allegedly used the C-word in an email to his publicist venting that he’d been overlooked for a knighthood in 2013, reportedly calling the honours committee as a ‘bunch of c***s’. Comedian Maisie Adam used the word in reference to the incident, which was deemed justifiable, but Ryan used it again in a joke about Posh, which the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit concluded there was no editorial justification for whatsoever. Victoria received a humongous bouquet of flowers from David (Picture: INstagram/Victoria Beckham) Katherine said in the recording: ‘I don’t know that we are allowed to broadcast the c-word, but you did reference Victoria Beckham earlier and we’ll allow that.’ The gag prompted an audible reaction from the studio audience, leading the comedian to quickly add: ‘I like her really, I didn’t expect that reaction.’ In its ruling, the ECU said: ‘There was no such justification for a comment which presented Victoria Beckham as equivalent to a particularly offensive word.’ Ryan has since revealed she sent an apology to Victoria and blamed the joke on matrescence, a condition referring to the physical, emotional and psychological changes a woman goes through after becoming a mother. ‘Today the BBC announced their decision to uphold a complaint made by two very influential viewers about a joke that I tried to make on an episode of Have I Got News For You,’ she said. Should I have left the house?’ She continued: ‘This is gonna be a tough one for the feminists because I was a woman going to work but I did call another woman a c**t. ‘Sometimes I forget that celebrities are not my friends. If I had called Jimmy Carr a c**t, he wouldn’t have minded.
