Victim shot in head remains critical as hunt for gunmen continues

October 26, 2026 — 9:15amA manhunt is under way for the shooter and accomplices behind a drive-by shooting in Logan on Saturday night that injured four people, including a teenage bystander who was shot in the head.Police responded to reports of gunshots fired from a vehicle outside the Fitzy’s Loganholme centre on Bryants Road, where a boxing event was being held, about 8.15pm on Saturday.A 19-year-old Jimboomba woman was shot in the head and neck and rushed to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.People had gathered outside during an intermission of the boxing event when they were fired upon by masked gunmen. Cameron AtfieldShe remained in a critical condition on Monday.Three other people – a 38-year-old Browns Plains man, a 37-year-old Salisbury man and a 27-year-old Cornubia man – were shot in the abdomen and received surgery. All were in a stable condition on Sunday.Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said he was appalled the young woman’s life now hung in the balance, telling reporters on Sunday she was not believed to be the group’s intended target.“I believe she is an innocent bystander,” Galpin said.“It’s horrific. It’s something that her family should never have to go through.”Galpin said event organisers told police there was nothing to suggest something might occur before “at least half-a-dozen shots” were fired at people standing near a drop-off zone outside the venue from the front passenger window of a Mitsubishi.Witnesses and CCTV saw two men wearing balaclavas and gloves in the vehicle.Police continue to search for them and at least one other person believed to have picked them up after they set the Mitsubishi on fire. The car was found set alight on Maloney Road at Waterford West. A second vehicle collected the pair and Galpin said they had reason to believe one of them might have been burnt.A dual-cab ute was also set alight on Beaudesert Road at Tamborine. Galpin said investigations were under way to see if that second vehicle was involved in the incident.Taskforce Maxima, the Queensland police bikie squad, is involved in the investigation.Logan Mayor Jon Raven said he was not aware of any significant bikie activity in his city.“Police said there is no further threat and we have to trust our men and women in blue and their assessment,” Raven said.“But more than that, the people that you see every day in the streets of Logan are good people. They’re your friends. They’re your neighbours. They’re part of your community.Police at the scene on Sunday.Cameron Atfield“These individuals do not represent the people of Logan, and they do not represent what we’re about.”In a statement on Sunday, organisers for the boxing event – Logan City Tiles – said they were “heartbroken” and were praying for the full recovery of all victims.“These types of incidents have no place in the boxing community or any part of the broader community.Right now, our thoughts go out to the victims and all that were affected.”Premier David Crisafulli said he hoped the offenders would be brought to justice swiftly and he pledged to exercise strong new laws to prosecute the shooters.“Earlier this year, we passed amongst the strongest new laws for drive-by shooting in the country, and it’s my hope that these people responsible for it are arrested and that those new laws apply to them,” he said.Police will provide an update on the incident on Monday.Get alerts on significant breaking news as happens.
