Veteran Mississippi State D-Line coach David Turner announces retirement

Mississippi State veteran defensive line coach David Turner announced his retirement on Saturday, bringing an end to a legendary coaching career in college football. Turner had three different stints working for the Bulldogs, coaching under Sylvester Croom, Dan Mullen, Zach Arnett, and Jeff Lebby in his time in Starkville. He also coached up some legendary Bulldog alumni, including current NFL stars Chris Jones and Jeffrey Simmons. Turner coached for nearly 40 years in college football, including stops at several other Power 4 programs such as fellow SEC programs Florida, Alabama, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. He first began his coaching career at his alma mater, Davidson, in 1986. The Bulldogs’ defensive line is currently led by Ty Warren, who joined the program at the end of the 2025 season after he coached at Rice as the defensive line position coach and defensive run game coordinator.
