Vermont Academy (Vt.) guard Kamari Whyte leads New Heights to 3SSB title

While all eyes were on the Nike Peach Jam tournament today, Saxtons River Vermont Academy (Vt.) guard Kamari Whyte was leading the way for New Heights at the Adidas 3SSB Palmetto Road Championships today. In today’s Palmetto Road Championships final, Whyte led his team to a win over Mass Rivals. A three-star prospect in the class of 2027, White ranks No. 51 nationally and is the No. 1 prospect from Vermont according to Rivals Industry Rankings, which is a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He was supported by Warminster Archbishop Wood (Pa.) combo guard Caleb Lundy, who put up 12 points and recorded six steals in the final, as well as Blair Academy (N.J.) four-star center Kamsi Awaka, who recorded ten points and nine rebounds. On the opposing side, for Mass Rivals, Master’s Academy International (Mass.), four-star Antonio Pemberton put in his best effort to drag his team over the line, putting up 33 points, with six made three-pointers. Pemberton is currently being recruited by multiple D1 coaches, including Michigan State. “That’s a big-time school and a big-time coach, so it’s a blessing getting to know Coach Izzo even more. He was telling me how they really don’t offer a bunch of people, and he just loves how I play both sides of the court. He likes how I can defend well. And, on the other side, how I can score or help my team score? He likes my leadership a lot.” Pemberton revealed to Spartanmag. Meanwhile, the MVP on the winning side, Whyte, currently holds offers from both Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, with his decision split between the two according to Rivals Prediction Model. He recently opened up on his Georgia Tech visit to Jackets Online. “They showed me around so much, and I loved the campus and all (they showed me). I am really intrigued by Georgia Tech, and this could definitely be somewhere I’m willing to come to (play on the next level).” After the 2025 season, before his standout performance at the Adidas 3SSB event, Whyte earned his offers off the back of a standout 2025 campaign. The class of 2027 prospect was named Gatorade Vermont Player of the Year, averaging 21.8 points and 6.2 rebounds. Additionally, his efforts also helped Vermont Academy to a historic season, taking them to the 2025 National Prep Championship Series semi-finals, where they fell to Putnam Science Academy (Conn.). Following today’s final victory, he was also named MVP at the Palmetto Road Championship. Following his performance at the Adidas 3SSB circuit, Whyte will return to action with Vermont Academy later this year, with the Vermont high school basketball season starting in December.
