Veeramani POCSO case: DMK moves Madras High Court to ask SIT to summon Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and Nirmal Kumar

Nirmal Kumar The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has approached the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the R. Veeramani POCSO Act case to ascertain whether Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar had any material in their possession to prove the party’s alleged attempt to shield the Gem Granites founder from the child sexual abuse case.The DMK, represented by its treasurer T.R. Baalu, had filed the petition seeking a direction to the all-women SIT, constituted specifically for the purpose of investigating the case booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012, to act upon a representation made to it on Sunday (September 27, 2026) for summoning the Chief Minister and two Ministers for inquiry.In an affidavit filed on behalf of the party, Mr. Baalu said that it was the duty of every individual who possessed information regarding the POCSO Act case to share it with the SIT. However, instead of doing so, the Chief Minister, as well as the two Ministers, had been making comments on public platforms accusing the previous government, led by the DMK, of having shielded the prime accused, he complained.The deponent also claimed that failure to share any available information with the SIT would amount to a criminal offence of concealment. He said that the SIT too was duty-bound to summon the individuals concerned and collect all material evidence, if any, in their possession. Therefore, a representation was made to the SIT on Sunday for summoning the Chief Minister and the two Ministers.Claiming to have marked a copy of the representation to the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force as well, Mr. Baalu said: “My representation also raised the issue as to the source of the information forming the basis of the statements made by the aforesaid persons and whether they had access to any investigation-related material which was not legitimately to be made available to them.”He also contended that the public statements made by the Chief Minister and the two Ministers levelling the grave charge that the DMK had shielded the prime accused in the POCSO Act case could not be considered merely as political statements, especially when they concerned an ongoing investigation into a serious offence under the POCSO Act involving numerous child victims.
