Valve Lands VK_AMD_anti_lag Support For AMD RADV Driver In Mesa 26.3

There is yet another feature to get excited about for this quarter's Mesa 26.3 release. Months in the making, the Valve-contributed VK_AMD_anti_lag support for the Radeon RADV driver was merged today for benefiting AMD Linux gamers as a nice improvement over the former implementation. VK_AMD_anti_lag debuted back in July 2024 with Vulkan 1.3.291 as the Vulkan extension for AMD Anti Lag to help reduce latency while gaming. The extension enables automatic pacing of the CPU to make sure it does not get too far ahead of the GPU in order to minimize latency between input events and screen updates. In 2025, VK_AMD_anti_lag support came to Mesa as an implicit Vulkan layer but earlier this year Valve's software engineers began working on a replacement to that Mesa Anti-Lag layer. That work led by developer Daniel Schürmann is now merged for introducing the generic "vk_frame_pacer" utility framework that can be shared among Mesa Vulkan drivers and then the actual implementation for the RADV driver. The new implementation all-around should be better and also allow for easily implementing NVIDIA's VK_NV_low_latency_2 extension atop it. This merge request has all the details on the code now part of Mesa 26.3 coming out as stable in November.
