Utah High School Football: Corner Canyon cruises past Davis in opener

Sutera notched his very first victory as the Chargers’ lead man and it wasn’t really that close at times. New starting quarterback Jaxon Pehrson stole the show for Corner Canyon on the dais as the passer accounted for four total touchdowns, including scoring throws of 65 and 55 yards to Diesel Dart. Pehrson also added a touchdown throw to Carter Kjar and a 60-yard scamper for a score. It was a close score heading into halftime as the Chargers only led 7-6 over the Darts. It was what happened after intermission that turned the game on its proverbial head. Corner Canyon (1-0) ended up going on a 44-8 run in the final two quarters of play as the Chargers were able to dominate in the trenches. Dart scored on a Wildcat play to push Corner Canyon ahead 14-6. It didn’t take long for the floodgates to open wide and the Chargers to pull out ahead. Pehrson would then hit Kjar on a short scoring pass and then add his long touchdown run to push the lead out to 28-6. After a safety that made it 30-6, Corner Canyon would add touchdowns via special teams on a kickoff return and another Dart score to go up 44-6. The Chargers are back on the road next Friday when they take on Timpview and the Darts will look to regroup when they face off versus Fremont.
