US Renews ‘Do Not Travel’ Warning for Ukraine

The US State Department has updated its travel advisory for Ukraine, urging American citizens to refrain from visiting the country due to the ongoing war and the threat of Russian attacks. While the overall danger level remains unchanged, the State Department noted that it updated the advisory to reflect current risks associated with the armed conflict and to clarify the general security situation for US citizens. The primary reasons for maintaining the highest risk level remains the ongoing war and Russia’s regular, indiscriminate missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian territory, which continue to strike non-frontline regions. Despite the severe security environment, the State Department confirmed that the US Embassy in Kyiv remains open and operational. Deadly strikes in Odesa and Kyiv regions The updated travel warning comes amid a continued campaign of Russian aerial assaults across Ukraine. Early Saturday morning, Aug. 29, a Russian drone attack on the Izmail district in the southern Odesa region killed one person and injured three others, local authorities reported. Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper stated that the strike damaged local transport infrastructure and triggered fires. The attack also severely impacted agricultural logistics, destroying five trucks loaded with grain and damaging three others. The strike on Odesa follows a sustained wave of Russian drone attacks across the Kyiv region on Friday, Aug. 28, which killed one person and injured at least nine others across multiple districts. The most recent casualties in the region occurred late Friday evening when a drone struck an enterprise in the village of Myla in the Bucha district. The strike injured six people and forced the evacuation of 200 residents as secondary explosions triggered a massive fire that spread to nearby private homes. Prosecutors have since opened an investigation into the Myla incident to determine if explosive materials were legally stored at the enterprise. Earlier on Friday, a man was killed and another injured by shrapnel during a morning attack in the Bucha district, while casualties were also reported in the Fastiv and Boryspil districts. The Friday attacks caused extensive property damage across the region. Among the sites hit was a Nova Poshta sorting depot in Sviatopetrivske, which was destroyed by a Russian drone. Local officials noted that Russian forces struck the site twice more approximately an hour after the initial attack while emergency crews were fighting the fire. Rescuers were able to withdraw to a safer location before the subsequent strikes, and Nova Poshta confirmed all its employees survived.
