US firm breaks ground for world’s most modern explosive loading facility for 155mm ammunition

This is a major step in the modernization of the United States’ large-caliber ammunition production capabilities. The project is being executed through CSG’s U.S. subsidiary, MSM North America, following the award of a U.S. Army contract in 2025 valued at up to $632 million.The new government-owned, contractor-operated facility is designed to replace an aging production line that has been in service for more than 50 years. Capacity to manufacture 36,000 loaded 155mm artillery projectiles Once operational, the complex will have the capacity to manufacture up to 36,000 loaded 155mm artillery projectiles per month, world’s most modern explosive loading facility for 155mm artillery ammunition. The initiative forms part of the U.S. Army’s broader effort to modernize and expand its domestic munitions industrial base.“Breaking ground on the Future Artillery Complex is much more than the start of construction of a new production facility,” said Michal Strnad, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CSG.“It demonstrates what can be achieved when the U.S. Army and industry work together with a shared commitment to strengthening allied defence capabilities. We are proud that MSM North America and CSG have become trusted partners in this strategically important program, contributing decades of ammunition manufacturing experience to help build capabilities that will serve the United States and its allies for many years to come.” The ceremony was attended by representatives from the U.S. Army, CSG, and several industry partners. U.S. Army officials highlighted the strategic importance of the project, noting that the Future Artillery Complex will play a key role in achieving the Army’s target of producing 100,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition per month through multiple modernization initiatives across the country.According to MSM North America CEO Jason W. Gaines, the new facility has been designed with long-term sustainability in mind. He noted that automation will be integrated where it improves worker safety, manufacturing efficiency, and product consistency, while emphasizing that the project represents a collaborative effort between the Army and industry partners. Future Artillery Complex Beyond increasing production capacity, the project also expands CSG’s industrial footprint in the United States. The company currently employs more than 4,000 people across its U.S. operations, largely through The Kinetic Group, and expects the Iowa facility to create approximately 70 highly skilled jobs while supporting further growth of MSM North America in the U.S. defence market.CSG has also broadened its North American presence through the launch of CSG Land Systems North America, which represents several of the group’s defence brands in the fields of artillery systems, tactical vehicles, and land platforms. The expansion reflects the company’s long-term strategy to increase its role in the U.S. defense industrial base, according to a press release.Construction of the Future Artillery Complex is expected to take approximately 40 months, with commissioning and First Article Acceptance Testing scheduled within 48 months of the contract award.
