UP Board asks Classes 9 to 12 students to create APAAR IDs for digital records

The UP Board has asked schools to help Classes 9 to 12 students create APAAR IDs and record them in registration forms. The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP), or the UP Board, is pushing for students from Classes 9 to 12 to create their APAAR IDs and link them to their academic records.The UP Board has asked schools to get APAAR IDs created for students and record them in advance registration and examination application forms. The board is aiming to have the IDs of 100 per cent of students recorded before the registration deadline.APAAR ID, or Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry ID, is a 12-digit permanent digital identity created for students. It can help maintain a student’s academic records digitally throughout their educational journey.However, as per the board, APAAR ID is not mandatory at present for advance registration or examination applications. UP Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh has clarified that students will not be stopped from completing these processes for not providing an APAAR ID. APAAR ID CAN LINK MARKSHEETS, TC AND OTHER ACADEMIC RECORDSAccording to Additional Chief Secretary, Secondary Education, Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma, advance registration for Classes 9 and 11 and examination applications for Classes 10 and 12 are currently underway.Through APAAR ID, students’ marksheets, transfer certificates (TCs) and other important academic documents can be securely stored in digital form through DigiLocker. This can reduce the risk of students losing or damaging important physical certificates. The digital identity can also make it easier for students to access their academic records when required. Accurate academic details linked to the APAAR ID may further help students avail themselves of scholarships and other welfare schemes.The APAAR ID creation process is carried out after obtaining the consent of a student’s parent or guardian. The board has therefore asked principals, teachers and parents to support students in completing the process.School principals have been asked to make efforts to ensure that all students have their APAAR IDs recorded before the final registration deadline.
