Sure, they're often buggy and borderline unplayable, and programmers tend to abandon them after the novelty wears off - not to mention the ethical and environmental implications of using AI - but one of the side effects to this sudden Claude boom is an influx of games being made playable in a browser. And for whatever reason, vibecoders have decided to place themselves squarely in the crosshair of Nintendo, which isn't exactly known for its trigger discipline. Typically, before the age of inexperienced vibecoders, browser ports, like emulators, were careful to avoid tipping into piracy. You usually need to provide your own copies and BIOS, burning what are presumably your own legal discs, but not wiiported. This new website, which emulates the Wii user interface as a launch pad for several games, allows you to access them via limited codes given out on its Discord server, where it also handily links you to download files for each game hosted either on third-party websites or Google Drive. There's a very good reason emulators do not do this. The games so far include: Rabbids Go Home Mario Kart Wii New Super Mario Bros. Wii Luigi's Mansion The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker HD Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Super Mario Sunshine Mario Kart 8 Super Mario 3D World is also currently being worked on. Don't Expect Wiiported To Stay Up For Long Projects like these are already on the radar of publishers, who are stuck playing an endless game of whack-a-mole, with a popular Mario Kart 8 browser port shutting down just earlier this month. It was laggy, missing effects, and rife with collision issues and broken controls, which is typical of vibecoding. Granted, wiiported hasn't openly admitted to using AI to churn these out, but the sheer number of games being posted to the website all but confirms it. That, and, whenever somebody asks for a feature, the developer coyly says something along the lines of "is hard." I can't imagine wiiported will last long, and it's certainly not the ideal way to play these games. Vibecoding never is, and unfortunately, projects like this only bury the hard work that actual dedicated fans are doing to preserve the classics, and giving console giants like Nintendo even more ammo to clamp down on them. There's a novelty to playing a busted, half-hearted Mario Kart 8 port on Google Chrome, sure, but that's all it is: a novelty.
