Sign in to your Simple Flying account United Airlines is set to restore flights between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) on September 8, ending its suspension on flights to Israel since the end of February. The route returns with two daily Boeing 787-10 services, rising to up to three daily flights from early November. This is the first of four United routes to Tel Aviv scheduled to return over the next seven months. It will restart flights out of Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) from late October, followed a day later by Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), while flights from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) won't resume until March 2027. Several international carriers have returned to Tel Aviv since the widespread suspension of services to Israel in February. This includes Delta Air Lines, which resumed flights just days ago, although American Airlines won't be returning until March 2027. United's Boeing 787-10 is configured with 318 seats, including 44 Polaris business, 21 Premium Plus and 253 economy seats. Data from aviation analytics company Cirium shows that United will ramp up to three daily services from November 3, also adding some rotations with the 787-9. The 787-9 has 61 fewer seats than the 787-10, carrying 257 passengers across 48 Polaris business, 21 Premium Plus and 188 economy seats. Three Daily Flights From November By November, United will also have restored direct service to Tel Aviv from both Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles, with the smaller 787-8 type deployed on both routes. These flights will carry up to 243 passengers, split between 28 Polaris business, 21 Premium Plus and 194 economy seats. San Francisco to Tel Aviv isn't scheduled to restart until March 2027. United is set to deploy its newest 222-seater 'Elevated' 787-9 configuration on this route, which contains 64 of its latest Polaris suites, along with 35 Premium Plus and 123 economy seats. By April 2027, United plans to operate an average of four daily flights between the US and Tel Aviv, making it the largest US operator to Tel Aviv. It will also be the joint-highest number of flights ever for April, matching its frequencies in 2023. US Airlines Are Gradually Restoring Israel-Bound Services Credit: Joe A. Kunzler | Shutterstock Delta returned to Tel Aviv on September 6, restarting its daily New York JFK (JFK) service with the Airbus A330-900, although its two other connections to Israel from Atlanta (ATL) and Boston (BOS) remain suspended. However, American's New York JFK-Tel Aviv route, which has been suspended since October 2023, won't return until the end of March 2027. Israeli airspace was closed to most commercial flights on February 28 and would not fully reopen until April. Since then, El Al and Arkia have been the only operators of nonstop flights between Israel and the US, and the lack of competition has reportedly caused fares to skyrocket. Israir will also be entering the US market for the first time in 18 years with the launch of three weekly flights between Tel Aviv and New York JFK. The Israeli carrier has brought in two widebodies for this route in the form of two Airbus A330-200s formerly flown by US Airways and then American, which have retained their former American cabins.
