UNGA 2026: Coalition of 80 countries at call for reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Live Blog Update| War on Iran 24 September 2026 18:21 BST A coalition of 80 countries called on Thursday for the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Gulf, condemning attacks by Iran and the Houthis in Yemen that are disrupting global shipping. “Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to threaten international security and ‌navigational rights and freedoms,” said a joint statement read out by Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. “We call for the full restoration of navigational rights and principles without delay.”
