Unemployed former Man Utd star leaves League Two club without deal after trying to save career following driving shame

BRANDON WILLIAMS’ two-month spell with Rotherham United looks to be over after the former Manchester United defender failed to earn a contract. The 25-year-old has been attempting to revive his career after a difficult period off the pitch. He was convicted of dangerous driving for the offence, which took place in August 2023 when he hit another vehicle and slammed into the central reservation of the A34 in Cheshire. The United academy graduate was banned from driving for three years and ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid community work. He admitted to trying to impress a girl sat next to him in the car and was deemed fortunate not to have injured or killed anyone in the process. Williams joined Hull to try and turn things around but never got up to speed and was left training with the Under-21s. This summer he featured in seven friendly matches as a trialist and remaining with the Millers into the start of the new campaign no contract offer has been made. Williams is now understood to be training elsewhere as he continues his search for a new club. Rotherham boss Alex Bruce had already suggested earlier this month that the defender should consider opportunities elsewhere if they arose. Bruce said: “I’ve had a conversation with Brandon. “If there’s anything out there for him in terms of someone being desperate for him then of course he’s got to go and explore it. “At the minute, he’s happy training here, he’s happy being around the place. “We are in a situation where other areas of the field might need addressing first before we look at that one.
