Ultra-Low-Cost Airlines Renew Push for Tax Break to Offset Soaring Jet Fuel Costs

Ultra-low-cost carriers in the U.S. are seeking to renew talks with lawmakers in Washington about relief from rising jet fuel prices in the form of a tax holiday. Jonathon Freye, the executive director of trade group Association of Value Airlines, told Skift that the group has reached out to several congressional offices in recent weeks, but has so far not received any indication that Congress would consider such a measure. The AVA represents Allegiant, Frontier Airlines, Avelo Air, and Breeze Airways. “There's clearly a sort of concern about the affordability of transportation, and I think for a lot of our customers and the big carriers, too,” Freye said. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
