It’s bad news for students in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, as the test centre has been named the hardest in the country. The centre was also crowned the worst in 2024, at an even more concerning 32.4 per cent pass rate. As revealed in research conducted by Rio Driving School and Online Marketing Surgery, the site conducted 11,561 tests between April 2025 to March 2026, of which just 3,961 were successful. Following closely behind are centres in Wednesbury, also West Midlands, and Featherstone (near Wolverhampton), in Staffordshire, with a poor 34.9 per cent and 36.4 per cent pass rate. Urban areas appear to feature highly on the list, with parts of Liverpool, Scotland, and Luton holding some of the worst scores. This is likely due to tougher driving environments, including more traffic and pedestrians, multi-lane roads, and roundabouts. On the flip side, the areas with the highest pass rates appear to be in more rural areas, where quieter roads and fewer complex roundabouts all help improve chances of successful tests. Most read in Motors This has led to Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria, being crowned as the easiest test centre in the country. Here, more than 70 per cent of learners go on to gain their licence, with 1,183 tests successful out of 1,699.
