THE UK’s biggest toy chain has pulled a wooden game from shelves over fears it contains asbestos. Shoppers have been urged to stop using the product immediately and to contact the retailer for a full refund. The red, blue and white game set, manufactured in China and marked with the model number 233254, has therefore been withdrawn from the market. Since January this year, at least 200 asbestos-contaminated children’s toys, craft kits and novelty doorstops have been recalled, with a long list of renowned British retailers impacted. For any product that contains trace levels of asbestos, customers have been urged to stop using the product immediately. If the sand is still kept inside the bean bag, the product should be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag, sealed securely, labelled with important information and kept out the reach of children. If the bean bag bursts, wear an FFP2 or equivalent mask and gloves to wipe up the spillage with wet clothes, then bag and store used cleaning materials the same way. Then, return the product to any Smyths Toys for a full refund, with no receipt required, or contact your local authority for safe asbestos disposal policy if this is not possible. At the end of the product recall notice, Smyths Toys said: “Spread the word about this recall, especially if you know that the recalled product was offered, lent or sold to someone else.” Comment now
